How Do You Make An Origami Crane

Question of the day for all the Origami art fans out there is how do you make an origami crane? My friend asked me the other day if I could find information on the internet on how to fold an origami crane. Why, because unlike myself who spends at least 12 hours a day on the internet thanks to work, my friend has very little time for such random searches of information. So I thought since I was finding some quick and easy information for my friend on how to fold an origami crane that I could probably make a post out of the information

A rather basic creation when it comes to art of origami. Somehow though the crane has become a very common symbol or representation of what can be done with Origami. Is it because the Origami crane has been seen in movies and TV on popular shows like Prison Break on Fox. The Origami crane made quite a few appearances on the Fox show even becoming a visual icon on the open credits of the show. Appearances like that have helped to make the origami crane for American audiences for other cultures around the world the origami crane has been a symbol for thousands of years.

The Origami crane is held in high regard and is seen as a symbol of loyalty, respect and honor. Especially in the Asian cultures where traditions like the 1000 Origami cranes for weddings have been practiced for hundreds of years. With that said this would be a good spot to put up some visual instructions for you to see. Here is a caption of the folding directions that I found to be the clearest on how to fold and Origami Crane:

Now if you are like me taking the time to read very clear and detailed directions like these on how to fold an origami crane will still not make much sense to you. Perhaps you are like me and you are more of a visual person who can follow directions better if they are seen. Well my friend you are in luck because there are plenty of Youtube videos out there for people that want to learn how to fold an origami crane. I went through a few of them and I settled on this one video done up by a Lisa Shea who runs her own origami site and clearly knows her origami.

What I enjoyed about Lisa’s video clip about folding the origami crane is that she does it in a short two minutes and fifty seconds. It’s done very clearly and precise with no rush to her folding plus she does the folding on a line board which looks to be a great tool for keeping your folds straight. Well here it is the video by Lisa Shea on how to fold an origami crane.

I hope that the combination of the folding directions and video clip for folding an origami crane will be of use to anyone that happens to be looking for this information. As far as my friend goes who got the email with the links for all this origami crane information, I have yet to see my only request for getting him this information which was my own origami crane. Looks like I may be folding my own crane!
